Ikone joins the fight against climate change by carrying our its Carbon Footprint with Greenly!

When Ikone contacted Greenly, the objective was to carry out their first carbon assessment. Since the company has just 15 employees, they weren't doing this as part of a legal obligation. Rather, they wanted to get engaged as part of a voluntary and transparent CSR approach, by accurately measuring their carbon impact. Today, Ikone has earned its first badge towards its Net Zero trajectory!

Ikone was born from the Fouque Company, created by Antoine and Matthieu in 2019. Its business is to design, develop and customize all types of textiles for companies and organisations.

Historically engaged in textile marking and screen printing since 1982, the company has now become more diversified, offering embroidery and digital printing to its customers.

2 years after the takeover of the previous company, many things have changed: the emergence of a CSR policy, a threefold increase in the number of employees, a new website, and strong commercial development...

With Antoine and Matthieu's ambitions to integrate virtue into Ikone's growth, it is unthinkable for them to do so without concrete progress on their carbon impact. This is why they have chosen to measure their carbon footprint by embarking on the Greenly adventure.

ITV - Why did you carry out a GHG assessment? 🤔

The textile industry is the 2nd most polluting industry in the world. It is a market where traceability is far from perfect, and where social and environmental impacts are significant throughout the production chain.

By committing to a CSR policy, the objective was to expand our company while taking these impacts into account: as players in this market, we have our share of responsibility and we must act beyond legal constraints.

In order to reduce our GHG emissions, it is essential to be able to measure them beforehand. This is why we decided to calculate our carbon footprint with Greenly. This allows us to structure our environmental policy and to draw up an action plan to reduce our emissions in the long term.

Why Greenly? 🌱

The measurement solution proposed by Greenly is simple and intuitive. It allows us to monitor our impacts in real time and to be supported in our action and compensation plans. It is a solution that is particularly well suited to our context as a fast-growing SME.

In addition, our strategy is to go further in our measurement process before taking targeted corrective action. Since Greenly also offers life cycle analyses, they checked the boxes on everything we were looking for.

As Greenly is a recognized solution on the market, having been awarded the French Tech Green 2020 label, it seemed natural and appropriate to embark on this adventure with them!

Ikone's carbon footprint update 📊

Our first assessment gives us a quick overview of our carbon impact. Ikone had a total footprint of 1779t CO2 in 2020.

This figure includes not only direct and energy-related emissions (Scope 1 & 2) but also indirect emissions caused by service providers and services used by the company (Scope 3).

99% of Ikone's carbon footprint is indirect, and 91% is made up of textile purchases.

Ikone wants to reduce its emissions 📉

As Ikone's impact is essentially linked to our suppliers and the textiles we import, we made these purchases our priority in our carbon plan. A responsible purchasing policy is being established, as well as the continuous search for solutions to reduce the impact of the clothes we buy.

A life cycle assessment is underway with Greenly. The aim is to specify our measures to better understand the impact of our flagship products at each stage of their production. Through this analysis, we will benefit from precise data to consolidate our GHG assessment and to guide our carbon plan in a concrete and efficient manner.

We also have a role to play in supporting our customers in their choice of textiles. A large proportion of them are still looking for low prices. That is why we try to draw their attention to the relevance of a more sustainable choice: textile quality, durability and minimal environmental impact. We are currently thinking about ways to estimate the carbon footprint of different products and communicate this to our customers.

At Ikone, we are convinced of the importance of the values and meaning that a garment communicates: choosing sustainability in the purchase of a garment allows us to convey the values it supports. Our ambition at Ikone is to make every company, association or event a brand that is recognized for its values.

As a result of this assessment, we expect to begin a Net Zero emissions reduction trajectory in order to be consistent with the COP21 objectives of limiting global warming to 1.5°C. To better define the contours of this trajectory, we are awaiting the conclusions of the life cycle analysis.
