Kalray contacted Greenly when they decided it was time to conduct their first GHG assessment. They wanted to get the whole business involved in the process of reducing their emissions and lowering their carbon footprint. Today, Kalray has earned its first badge towards its Net Zero trajectory!
Kalray is a "fabless" semiconductor company and a leader in next-gen processors that specialize in intelligent data at both the cloud and edge levels. Kalray's teams work at the forefront of innovation. They have developed unique technological solutions that enable its customers to fully exploit the potential of a world that is now based on massive, disparate and pervasive data.
With their patented "manycore" architecture, Kalray's MPPA® intelligent processors are able to handle multiple data streams, enabling applications that leverage massive amounts of data to be smarter, faster, and more energy-efficient. Kalray's offering includes processors, accelerator cards with their software environment, and complete systems, which enable their customers to design the best solutions in high-growth sectors such as modern data centers, 5G, AI, Edge Computing, autonomous vehicles and many more.
A spin-off from CEA founded in 2008, Kalray's investors include Alliance Venture (Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi), Safran, NXP Semiconductors, CEA and Bpifrance. Kalray is about technology, expertise, and the passion to offer more and more: more for an intelligent world, more for the planet, more for our customers and developers.
"Social responsibility is at the heart of Kalray’s mission. Together with Greenly, we are committed to be actively engaged in climate action."
In order to reduce our GHG emissions, we first needed to measure them and identify areas for improvement. This is why we decided to calculate our carbon footprint with Greenly. Their solution allowed us to better structure our environmental policy and to draw our action plan, helping us reduce emissions in the long term.
The measurement solution proposed by Greenly is simple and intuitive. Moreover, they have great ratings from their customers, and they’ve obtained the French Tech Green 2020 label. Working with Greenly was the obvious choice.
Kalray's carbon footprint takes into account not only direct and energy-related emissions (Scope 1 & 2) but also indirect emissions caused by service providers and services used by the company (Scope 3). Adding up all emissions, Kalray had a footprint of 1922t CO2e in 2021.
The action plan has been defined and is currently underway. To achieve our objective, we intend to involve managers for each major emission item. We will therefore work together with each relevant department to define reduction actions that are both impactful and also within reach, while respecting the 2022 development and growth objectives that have been defined.
